About Us
Our Names
It's about bikes (also My Ride Collingwood) Yes! our dual names, and new location, definitely cause some debate and confusion! We opened our first shop as Smith Street Cycles back in 2010. We were based in Smith Street, Collingwood for our first 7 years. We then became part of the awesome My Ride network of shops, stocking Avanti, Scott and Malvern Star bikes. More recently we relocated around the corner to 186-192 Wellington Street in Collingwood, but have retained our original names as most of our loyal customers know as as one or the other.
Our Company
We opened our first shop, Smith Street Cycles back in 2009 on Smith Street in Collingwood. After seven years there, we moved down the road, right on the bike lane at 192 Wellington Street. A few years later, we became part of the awesome My Ride network of shops, stocking Avanti, Scott and Malvern Star bikes.
We have a focus on great customer service and excellence in all things cycling. We span all cycling disciplines from road, MTB, commuters, electric bikes, track, kids and urban bikes – as well as stocking a wide range of components, clothing and accessories.
Our superb location in the heart of the northern suburbs give us direct access to the Yarra MTB trails, the Kew Boulevard, and of course the busy Wellington St bike lane.
With two full time mechanics, two part time mechanics, a dedicated sales team and a couple of teens to help out after school, the staff each bring a unique background with expertise in all areas of cycling. Not only does this experience bring with it a wealth of knowledge of cycling products, technical areas and competitive know-how, but also a friendly cycling community.
Please feel free to phone us, shoot us an email, or drop in if you need any help deciding on accessories or selecting the correct parts you need to get you back in tip-top shape.
Our Team
Jamie – Owner
Family man, Jamie has a lifetime worth of experience in all things cycling. He brings a formidable knowledge of touring, road riding and cycling events and is always happy to pass on his passion, knowledge and advice to customers.
Jack – Manager
Long term staff member, Jack has seen at all. He loves nothing more than to see a unique problem and figure out the best way to fix it. He is an e-bike convert more than willing to share his knowledge of cycling.
Dave R – Mechanic
Another long-term staff member, Dave does it all. He is passionate about MTBs, can fix anything and is a pleasure to chat with. Also, weirdly loves cereal way too much.
Paddy – Sales
Paddy used to race at a national level on the road and track but now is keen to see regular people getting out on their bikes. On Sunday mornings he runs the Brunswick Junior Clinic for kids to learn the art of track cycling.
John – Sales & Mechanics
Johnny-Boy is one of our long-term staff members, he has been with us since he was at high school. John raced in the National Road Series and enjoys long walks along the beach at sunset.
Max – Sales
Max is an allrounder, happy to lend a hand to whatever needs doing. You’ll find him opening up in the mornings, before heading off to uni or footy training. Fun fact: Max can list off all the VFL/AFL premiers back to the 1950s.
Tom – Sales & Mechanics
Tom races with Brunswick CC on the road and the velodrome. He’s got a couple of years to go at school before (hopefully) shipping off overseas to race there.
Sam – Mechanic
Sam also has passion for MTBs (and weird fixies). He’s almost finished school, so expect to see more of him at the shop in the coming years.
